PORTMARNOCK

The design involves a significant renovation to a dormer bungalow together with a new rear extension on ground level. ​The house is located at Portmarnock Beach with views to Irelands Eye.

The proposal involves new dormer extensions to front and rear with enlarged bedroom spaces and maximising views to the Irish Sea. On ground floor, the existing living area is retained, but now connects to an enlarged kitchen diner to the rear. Materiality includes sand toned brick constructed in a stepped fashion to represent the rugged textures of the rocky coastal setting. A large rooflight draws natural light and the curved ceiling detail that connects it to the existing mimics the waves of the sea beyond.
